About Lydia Blaisdell

Lydia Blaisdell has been performing since she was two years old, starring as the baby bird in Seussical Jr. alongside her brother who performed the role of Horton. Coming from a musical family, Blaisdell has always been surrounded by musical theater, opera, and choral music. She has been trained in other arts such as flute, piano, photography, and graphic design. Blaisdell is most specifically drawn to musical theater because it is a way to emotionally impact people with real life stories in a frequently cold world. She finds this form to be very emotionally impactful because of the live performance aspect. Blaisdell wants to be a part of that impact, while building community and making sure the arts are accessible to all people. Being a queer, plus-size performer, Blaisdell cares deeply about social activism, and she believes that her unique perspective of her identity brings diversity of thought, expression, and creativity to a production.

Currently, Blaisdell is a senior in the Bachelor of Music Musical Theatre program at CU Boulder, where she is studying under Matthew Chellis and Jennifer Bird-Arvidsson. Highlights of Blaisdell's college career have included roles such as Roxie Hart in Chicago, Heather Duke in Heathers the Musical, and Sandra Bloom in Big Fish. Recently, Blaisdell has been working with the Eklund Opera company at CU to create a production of Oklahoma! where she will be featured as Aunt Eller. None of this would have been possible alone, and throughout the years she has had many supporters such as friends, family, and professors. Specifically, Blaisdell would like to thank her parents, who gave her the freedom and courage to pursue her dreams, while setting an exceptional example of an exceptional life being led in the arts. Blaisdell aspires to do the same every day and cannot wait to continue performing and creating inspiring art that touches her audiences heart.
